April Cottage sits on an elevated plot, providing lots of big-sky space and views of the locality. The undulating garden and the quirky extensions of the property called for a clever use of composite decking to bond the cottage with the surrounding space. This formed an exceptional patio area with aluminium railings to compliment the window and door surrounds providing a safe area to be enjoyed by all. The decking wraps around the back of the house to connect the back door and onwards to link the external office.

The quirkiness of April Cottage enabled the internal space to be maximised with some internal wall changes. Original features, including high ceilings and the novel spiral staircase lent itself to Studio Black’s Scandi design, reflecting the physical traits of the Nordics described as reserved and individualistic with their light eyes and skin and their tall stature. Black matt bathroom accessories provide a contemporary finish and compliments the innovative pink cement sink and earthenware inspired tiles.
