#04 Using Visualizations in Interior Design
Posted by Michael Jepp in Boxy Services on January 7, 2020

Technology now allows us to actually visualize an interior design concept by using computer generated imagery, digital animation, three-dimensional models, and two-dimentional representations. Imagine taking your favourite interior design ideas and seeing them in an actual room, with visualization you can turn your interior design ideas into a reality. This process allows for flexibility and offers you endless possibilities giving you the opportunity to actually see the end result right away.
.
How does this help a client?
.
Through 3D visualization, clients have the option to interact with designers and provide informative feedback in a unique and rewarding way that they haven’t been able to do so before. This process saves time on design revisions, giving the client the opportunity to interact with the designer on a platform that brings a faster pace and enables them to eliminate any challenges beforehand. Without visualization costly hand-drawings took time and therefore ultimately resulted in less design changes and in the long run less choice. Visualization now gives the client an enjoyable user experience, to customize their design enabling them to agree to the end product confidently and saving time and money in the process.
.
Why should you use visualizations in interior design?
.
In the past, interior designers have focused on the illustrative means of delivering concepts to their clients. Hours, if not days were spent on presenting clients with the best conceptualisations. Although hand drawings can still be a good personable addition to a design, in today’s modern and technological world, it is essential for the interior designer to focus on 3D visualisations and on augmented reality to best present conceptualisations to potential clients.
.
We live in a world which is driven by the instantaneous and by technology devices. While there is an artistry to the traditional form of pen and paper, the reality of the situation is that many clients do not want to wait for the interior designer to draft out such illustrations. They wish to have the designs rendered and presented to them within days sometimes hours, possibly via a digital transfer, especially helpful when designing for international clients.
.
What can you choose during the visualization process?
.
Visualisation gives you the ultimate tool to see every detail, texture, materials, light and space constraints allowing you to select fixtures and furniture with ease. Should a client specify a particular brand of a model, the designer would be able to integrate it into the existing 3D space and decisions can be made time and cost efficiently.
.
Using visualization negates the need for time consuming and often costly samples, choices and revisions are far more expedient and the rendered results are far better in 3D than attempting to so on paper.
.
The client has more control over the design, with the confidence that revisions, however small can be made quickly and efficiently. Visualisation allows for more choice, allowing the client to test different colours and textures in a way that would have been impossible when a designer had to rely on artistry and moodboards.
.
Visualiation does not replace the interior designer, it enhances their ability to conceptualise your space and gives you an end product that you know before the builders commence their works is going to be a rewarding process that gives you exactly what you wanted.
